Family vacation destination...
The first settlement of the Pensacola area was the Fort Bay of Santa Maria Filipina in 1559, but was abandoned in 1561. It wasn't until 1698 that Pensacola was finally settled. Through the centuries the settlement braved naval battles, burning of the settlement by the French, hurricane destruction, British invasion, traded to Spain for the Bahamas, the War of 1812, back to the British, and finally embraced as an official property of the United States in 1821. Needless to say, Pensacola is quite a historical destination, and there's another 200 year span we've not covered here. The banners of five nations, Spain, France, England, the Confederate States of America, and the United States, have flown over the city of Pensacola, giving rise to its nickname, The City of Five Flags.
Pensacola may be best known for its' beautiful beaches. Known as a "Family Vacation Destination", Pensacola features many fine resorts and premier vacation rentals, as well as attractions such as: great golfing, fishing, dining and shopping. Pensacola has all the right ingredients to ensure a perfect vacation.
